Robot Vacuums Worth Buying in 2026: We Tested 12 Models

Robot vacuums range from $150 to $1500. After testing 12 models on carpet, hardwood, and pet hair, here are the ones that actually clean well.

We tested 12 robot vacuums over three months in homes with hardwood floors, medium-pile carpet, area rugs, and pets. The price spread across our test units ranged from $180 to $1500. Here are the models that genuinely earned their price — and the ones that did not.

    What Matters Most

Navigation: LiDAR-based navigation creates accurate room maps, avoids obstacles reliably, and cleans in efficient patterns. Camera-based and bump-and-wander navigation is less precise and wastes battery retracing areas. Every robot in our top picks uses LiDAR.

Suction power: Measured in Pascals (Pa), suction power determines how well the robot picks up fine dust and embedded debris from carpet. 2000-3000 Pa is adequate for hardwood. 4000-6000 Pa is needed for carpet and pet hair. Premium models now reach 10,000+ Pa.

Self-empty base: The single most impactful upgrade over a basic robot. A self-empty base stores weeks of debris, so you only interact with the robot when the base bag needs replacing. Without one, you are emptying a tiny dustbin after every run.

Best Overall: Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra

The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is the most capable robot vacuum we have tested. It combines 10,000 Pa suction, AI-powered obstacle avoidance (it identifies and avoids shoes, cables, and pet waste), mopping with automatic mop washing and drying, and a self-empty and self-refill base station. Navigation is precise, cleaning performance is excellent on all surfaces, and the app provides detailed room maps with customizable zones and schedules.

At around $1400, it is expensive. But if you want the best cleaning robot available, this is it.

    Best Value: Roborock Q7 Max+

For half the price of the S8 MaxV Ultra, the Q7 Max+ delivers LiDAR navigation, 4200 Pa suction, mopping capability, and a self-empty base. It lacks the AI obstacle avoidance and advanced mopping features of the S8 but cleans floors thoroughly and navigates efficiently. At around $600, it represents the best balance of cleaning performance and price.

    Best Budget: Eufy RoboVac G30

The Eufy RoboVac G30 at around $250 uses smart navigation (gyroscope-based, not LiDAR) and 2000 Pa suction. It handles hardwood floors well and manages low-pile carpet adequately. It does not have a self-empty base and its navigation is less precise than LiDAR models, but it is the best you can get under $300.

    Pet Hair Performance

For pet owners, we specifically tested each robot with controlled amounts of pet hair on carpet and hardwood. The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra and the iRobot Roomba j9+ handled pet hair best, with rubber extractors that resist tangling. Brush-based robots (most budget models) wrapped hair around the brush roll, requiring frequent manual cleaning.

    Mopping: Is It Worth It

Combo vacuum-mop robots clean light spills and maintain hard floors between manual moppings. They do not replace a proper mop for sticky messes or deep cleaning. If 80% of your floors are hard surface and you want to reduce your manual mopping frequency, a combo robot is a nice convenience. If your home is mostly carpet, skip the mopping feature and invest in better suction instead.
