The Ring Battery Doorbell Pro sits at the top of Ring's battery-powered doorbell lineup. It combines radar-powered motion detection with a wide-angle Head-to-Toe camera view, all running on a rechargeable battery. No wiring required.

We installed the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro on a typical suburban front door and tested it for three months through varying weather, lighting conditions, and an endless parade of delivery drivers.

Installation: Genuinely DIY

Installation took 12 minutes. Remove two screws from the mounting bracket, attach bracket to door frame, snap doorbell onto bracket, connect to WiFi through the Ring app. That is it. You can see packages on the ground, visitors' feet, and the full height of anyone at your door. This is genuinely useful for package theft verification and full-body identification.

Motion Detection: Radar Changes the Game

Most doorbell cameras use PIR (passive infrared) motion sensors. The Battery Doorbell Pro adds radar detection, which provides two significant advantages: more precise motion zones and the ability to detect motion through objects.

The radar-defined motion zones are dramatically more accurate than PIR-based zones. We configured the zone to cover only the walkway and front porch, ignoring the sidewalk and street. Over three months, false alerts from passing cars and pedestrians dropped to near zero — maybe two false alerts per week compared to multiple daily false alerts on our previous Ring Doorbell.

Ring Protect Subscription

Here is the catch: the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro requires a Ring Protect subscription ($3.99/month Basic, $12.99/month Plus) for video recording, sharing, and most smart features. Without the subscription, you get live view only — no recorded clips, no motion history, and no person detection.

Alexa Integration

For Amazon ecosystem households, Ring's Alexa integration is seamless. "Alexa, show me the front door" displays the live feed on any Echo Show. Motion alerts appear on Echo devices with a chime and optional live view popup. The Echo Show 15 paired with the Battery Doorbell Pro creates an effective home security dashboard.

Battery Life

Ring estimates six to twelve months of battery life depending on usage. In our testing with moderate motion activity (10-20 events per day), the battery lasted approximately four months before requiring a recharge. Homes with high foot traffic near the doorbell will see shorter battery life.
