Price Tracking Tools: Never Overpay for Electronics Again

Price tracking browser extensions and apps show you the full price history of any product and alert you when prices drop. Here are the best tools and how to use them.

BestElectronicsReviewed.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. We may earn a commission from qualifying purchases made through links on this page, at no extra cost to you.

The single best money-saving habit for electronics shopping is checking price history before buying. A product's current price means nothing without context — it might be at an all-time high, it might drop next week, or the "sale" price might be the normal price with a fake original price.

    CamelCamelCamel: Amazon Price History

CamelCamelCamel tracks the price history of every product on Amazon. Install the browser extension (called The Camelizer) and a price history chart appears on every Amazon product page. You can see the highest price, lowest price, and current price at a glance.

Set up price drop alerts for items on your wishlist. CamelCamelCamel emails you when the price drops below your target. This is the most effective way to time Amazon purchases — wait for the price to approach the historical low rather than buying at whatever the current price happens to be.

    Keepa: Advanced Amazon Tracking

Keepa provides similar functionality to CamelCamelCamel but with more detail. Its chart shows Amazon's price, third-party new prices, third-party used prices, and warehouse deal prices simultaneously. The Keepa browser extension embeds detailed charts directly on Amazon product pages.

Keepa also tracks price drops on the Buy Box — when a cheaper seller briefly takes over, Keepa can alert you. For competitive shoppers, Keepa's paid tier adds international price tracking and additional alert options.

    Google Shopping and Honey

Google Shopping compares prices across multiple retailers. Search for a product and the Shopping tab shows prices from Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, B&H, and other stores. This takes 10 seconds and often reveals the same product for 10-20% less at a different retailer.

PayPal Honey (browser extension) automatically applies coupon codes at checkout and tracks prices on your wishlist across stores. It works at most major retailers and occasionally finds meaningful discounts. The price tracking feature alerts you when items on your Droplist decrease in price.

    Slickdeals: Community-Powered Deals

Slickdeals is a community where users post and vote on deals. The Frontpage shows the highest-rated deals, and the deal alert feature lets you set keywords and get notified when matching deals appear. It covers all retailers and product categories.

The community vetting is the real value — deals with high vote counts and positive comments are genuinely good. Deals with warnings in the comments about inferior Black Friday SKUs or inflated original prices save you from bad purchases.

    Building Your System

Install CamelCamelCamel or Keepa (or both) as browser extensions. When you identify a product you want, check the price history chart. If the current price is near the all-time low, buy. If it is closer to the all-time high, set a price alert and wait.

For non-Amazon purchases, use Google Shopping to compare prices across retailers. Check Slickdeals for any active promotions or coupon codes. This 60-second routine saves an average of 15-20% on electronics purchases over time.

    The Patience Premium

The biggest savings come from patience. Electronics prices follow predictable cycles — they are highest at launch and drop steadily over 6-12 months. Major sale events (Black Friday, Prime Day, back-to-school) create price floors. If you can wait 3-6 months after a product launches and buy during a sale event, you typically save 20-40%.
