Costco vs Amazon Electronics: Price Comparison 2026
Costco and Amazon compete on electronics pricing, but each wins in different categories. Here's the definitive price comparison across 12 product types.

We compared prices on 50 popular electronics products between Costco and Amazon over a 3-month period. The results surprised us — neither retailer dominates across the board, and the best choice depends entirely on the category.
The Methodology
We tracked prices on 50 electronics products across both retailers from January through March 2026, checking weekly. We compared the lowest available price each week, including any member-only pricing (Costco membership required) and coupon/Subscribe & Save discounts (Amazon).
Category Results
TVs — Costco Wins
Costco wins on TVs for three reasons: comparable or lower prices, a 90-day return window (vs 30 days at Amazon), and an included 2-year warranty extension on all TVs.
Example: The LG C4 OLED 65-inch averaged $1,349 at Costco vs $1,396 at Amazon. The $47 difference is minor, but Costco's 2-year warranty extension (worth $100+ if purchased separately) makes it the clear winner.
Costco also stocks exclusive TV bundles with HDMI cables and extended warranties included.
Laptops — Amazon Wins (Mostly)
Amazon has a wider laptop selection and more frequent sales. Costco stocks fewer models but occasionally offers exclusive bundles with more RAM or storage at competitive prices.
Example: The MacBook Air M3 averaged $1,049 at Amazon vs $1,049 at Costco — tied on Apple pricing. But Amazon sales dropped it to $999 twice during our tracking period, while Costco held steady.
Batteries — Costco Wins Decisively
Costco's Kirkland batteries are made by Duracell and cost roughly 50% less than name-brand batteries on Amazon. This is one of the most lopsided comparisons.
Example: 48 AA batteries: Kirkland at Costco $14.99 vs Amazon Basics at $15.99. Similar pricing, but Costco's are Duracell-manufactured with arguably better quality.
Headphones — Amazon Wins
Amazon's frequent sales, Lightning Deals, and broader selection make it the better choice for headphones. The Sony WH-1000XM5 dropped to $248 on Amazon during our tracking period but never went below $278 at Costco.
AirPods — Tie (Depends on Timing)
Both retailers offer similar AirPods pricing. Costco occasionally includes an accessory (case, cable) in exclusive bundles. Amazon has more frequent small discounts.
Smart Home Devices — Amazon Wins
Unsurprisingly, Amazon's own devices (Echo, Ring, Blink) are cheapest on Amazon. Costco stocks some Amazon devices but rarely matches Amazon's own sale prices.
Cables and Chargers — Amazon Wins
Amazon's selection of cables, chargers, and adapters is vastly larger, and brands like Anker are perpetually on sale. Costco stocks limited cable options at full retail.
Example: The Anker 735 65W Charger is $35 on Amazon (frequently $28-30 on sale). Costco doesn't carry it.
Robot Vacuums — Amazon Wins (Slightly)
Amazon has more models and more frequent sales. Costco's selection is limited but sometimes includes exclusive bundles with extra accessories.
Printers — Costco Wins
Costco bundles printers with extra ink cartridges at prices that beat Amazon. The ongoing ink savings at Costco (they sell ink refill kits) add up significantly over time.
External Storage — Amazon Wins
Broader selection, more frequent sales, and Subscribe & Save options on consumable storage (SD cards). The Samsung T7 1TB averages $5-10 less on Amazon over time.
Surveillance Cameras — Tie
Similar pricing at both retailers. Costco offers exclusive multi-camera bundles that Amazon doesn't carry. Amazon has more brand options.
Gaming — Amazon Wins
Amazon's gaming section is deeper with more frequent sales on controllers, headsets, and accessories. Costco focuses on console bundles.
The Costco Advantage: Returns and Warranty
Even when prices are identical, Costco offers two significant advantages:
- 90-day return policy on electronics (vs 30 days at Amazon)
- 2-year warranty extension on TVs, computers, and major electronics (free with Costco membership)
- Concierge service for TVs and electronics — free tech support
For a $1,500 TV, the 2-year warranty extension alone is worth $100-200 — often making Costco the better value even at the same sticker price.
The Amazon Advantage: Price Fluidity
Amazon's prices change constantly, creating opportunities for alert shoppers:
- CamelCamelCamel tracking — set alerts for any price
- Subscribe & Save — additional 5-15% on eligible items
- Lightning Deals — deep discounts for limited time
- Amazon Warehouse — open box/return discounts
- Clip-on coupons — stackable instant savings
The Bottom Line
| Category | Winner | Margin | |----------|--------|--------| | TVs | Costco | Moderate (warranty) | | Laptops | Amazon | Slight | | Batteries | Costco | Large | | Headphones | Amazon | Moderate | | Smart Home | Amazon | Large | | Cables/Chargers | Amazon | Large | | Printers | Costco | Moderate | | Storage | Amazon | Slight | | Gaming | Amazon | Moderate |
For most electronics shoppers: Amazon wins on selection, price flexibility, and small accessories. Costco wins on TVs, major appliances, and anything where the warranty extension matters.
