Black Friday 2026 Prep Guide: Category-by-Category Strategy

Black Friday is months away, but the smart shoppers start planning now. Here's your category-by-category strategy based on three years of price data.

Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27th. Based on our price tracking data from 2023-2025, here's what to expect for every major electronics category — and how to prepare now so you don't overspend on mediocre "deals."

The Golden Rule: Know the Real Price

The biggest Black Friday trap is inflated "was" prices. A TV listed as "$999, now $599" might have been selling for $649 all month. The "discount" is partially fiction.

Your defense: Start tracking prices NOW on anything you plan to buy. Install the CamelCamelCamel browser extension. When Black Friday arrives, you'll have months of price data showing whether a deal is genuinely good.

    Category Breakdown

    TVs — The Marquee Deals

TVs are the anchor of Black Friday. Retailers use them to drive foot traffic and web traffic, and the discounts are real.

Expected discounts: 25-40% on name-brand TVs, 40-50% on lesser-known brands.

Strategy: Decide your size and panel type now. Research specific models. When Black Friday hits, you'll know instantly if the deal is good.

The LG C4 OLED in 55-inch hit $899 on Black Friday 2025 (from $1,296). Expect similar or slightly better deals in 2026.

The TCL QM8 Mini-LED 65-inch dropped to $649 last year. Budget-friendly TVs see some of the deepest percentage discounts.

    Headphones — Consistently Good Deals

Premium headphones reliably drop 20-35% on Black Friday.

Expected discounts: Sony XM5 drops to $228-248 (from $298). AirPods Pro drop to $169-179 (from $249). AirPods Max drops by $100.

Strategy: These are the safest Black Friday electronics buys. The Sony WH-1000XM5 will almost certainly hit its lowest-ever price on Black Friday 2026.

    Laptops — Mixed Results

Laptop Black Friday deals are hit-or-miss. Many "deals" are on special Black Friday SKUs with lower specs than the regular models.

Expected discounts: 15-25% on mainstream models, up to 35% on clearance models.

Strategy: Identify the exact model number you want beforehand. Don't get lured by a "deal" on a mystery SKU with 8GB RAM and a slow SSD.

The MacBook Air M3 typically sees $100-150 off from Amazon on Black Friday — a modest but real discount for Apple.

    Smart Home — Amazon's Playground

Amazon slashes prices on its own hardware (Echo, Ring, Blink, Fire TV) every Black Friday. These are some of the best deals of the event.

Expected discounts: Echo Dot 50-60% off, Ring cameras 40-50% off, Fire TV Stick 50% off.

Strategy: If you want any Amazon hardware, Black Friday is absolutely the time to buy.

Robot Vacuums — Competitive Market = Deep Discounts

The robot vacuum market is fiercely competitive, and Black Friday is where brands fight hardest.

Expected discounts: 25-40% across Roomba, Roborock, Ecovacs, and Shark.

Strategy: Last year's models see the deepest discounts as new models take center stage. A Roborock S8 Pro Ultra from last gen at 35% off is a better value than a current gen at 15% off.

    Tablets — Apple Dominates

iPads see consistent Black Friday discounts from third-party retailers.

Expected discounts: iPad 10th gen drops $50-80. iPad Air drops $60-100. iPad Pro drops $100-150.

Strategy: Wait for Black Friday if you want an iPad. The discounts are reliable year after year.

Storage (SSDs, Drives) — Already Cheap, Gets Cheaper

SSD prices have been in freefall. Black Friday adds another 15-25% on top of already-low prices.

Expected discounts: External SSDs 20-30% off. Internal NVMe SSDs 15-25% off.

Strategy: Good time to stock up on storage, but don't wait specifically for Black Friday — SSD prices are low year-round in 2026.

    The Black Friday Timeline

Early November: "Early Black Friday" deals begin. These are usually mediocre — retailers testing the waters.

Week of Thanksgiving: Deals start getting serious. Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart release their Black Friday ad scans.

Black Friday (November 27): The main event. Best deals appear between midnight and 10 AM.

Saturday-Sunday: Most Black Friday deals remain active online.

Cyber Monday (November 30): Additional deals, sometimes matching or beating Black Friday. Cyber Monday increasingly rivals Black Friday for electronics.
