Amazon Warehouse is Amazon's open secret. It sells returned, warehouse-damaged, and used products at 15-40% off the new price. Many of these items are functionally new — returned because someone changed their mind, not because anything was wrong. Here's how to use it effectively.
What Is Amazon Warehouse?
When someone returns a product to Amazon, it's inspected, graded, and relisted on Amazon Warehouse at a discount. The product still ships from Amazon, still has free returns (within 30 days), and still comes in reasonable packaging.
The key insight: many "used" Warehouse products are literally brand new. Someone ordered an item, opened the box, decided they didn't want it, and returned it. Amazon can't sell it as "new" anymore, so it goes to Warehouse at a discount.
Understanding the Condition Grades
Amazon Warehouse uses four condition grades. Learning what they actually mean is the key to getting great deals.
Used - Like New
What it means: Product is in original packaging with all accessories. It may have been opened but shows no signs of use.
Our recommendation: Buy without hesitation. These are essentially new products at 20-30% off. Perfect for electronics where cosmetic condition matters, like headphones and laptops.
Used - Very Good
What it means: Product may have minor cosmetic marks but is fully functional. Packaging may be damaged or replaced with generic Amazon packaging. All essential accessories included.
Our recommendation: Great for products where function matters more than appearance. A "Very Good" Anker 735 65W Charger works identically to a new one — a scuff on the case doesn't affect performance.
Used - Good
What it means: Product shows clear signs of use. Cosmetic damage is visible. Packaging may be missing. Some non-essential accessories may be missing.
Our recommendation: Only buy if the discount is significant (40%+) and the product's function isn't affected by cosmetic wear. Avoid for screens, displays, and anything where surface condition matters.
Used - Acceptable
What it means: Product is functional but has significant cosmetic damage. Packaging and accessories may be largely missing.
Our recommendation: Skip for electronics. The discount isn't worth the risk of receiving something in poor condition.
How to Find Warehouse Deals
Method 1: Direct Search
Go to amazon.com/warehouse and browse by category. You can filter by condition and see exactly what's available.
Method 2: Regular Product Pages
On any Amazon product page, look below the "Buy New" button for "Other sellers on Amazon" or a link that says "Used & new from $XX." Warehouse deals appear here alongside third-party sellers. They'll be identified as "Amazon Warehouse" as the seller.
Method 3: Price Trackers
CamelCamelCamel tracks Warehouse prices separately from new prices. You can set alerts for when a specific product appears on Warehouse at your target price.
Best Categories for Warehouse Deals
Electronics (Excellent)
Cables, chargers, adapters, power banks, and simple electronics are ideal Warehouse buys. A "Like New" Samsung T7 1TB SSD at 25% off is a no-brainer — these devices either work or they don't.
Headphones (Very Good)
Over-ear headphones in "Like New" or "Very Good" condition are great deals. Someone tried them, didn't like the fit, and returned them. The Sony WH-1000XM5 frequently appears at $70-100 off.
Smart Home Devices (Excellent)
Echo devices, smart plugs, and Ring cameras appear on Warehouse constantly. Amazon's own products are particularly reliable because they're tested and graded by Amazon's own team.
Monitors (Proceed with Caution)
Only buy "Like New" monitors from Warehouse. "Very Good" monitors might have dead pixels or scratches that aren't mentioned in the listing. If you get one with issues, return it immediately.
Laptops (Like New Only)
Only buy "Like New" condition laptops, and verify the listing mentions all original accessories. Check that the laptop includes the correct charger and that the battery cycle count is low (check in system settings after receiving it).
Categories to Avoid on Warehouse
- In-ear earbuds — hygiene concerns; silicone tips may be missing
- Kitchen appliances — may have food residue or missing parts
- Anything with consumable components — items where pads, filters, or cartridges may be used up
Pro Tips
Always Check the Return Window
Warehouse deals have the same 30-day return policy as new Amazon items. Test everything thoroughly within that window. Check screens for dead pixels, test all ports, verify battery health.
Combine with Sales
During Prime Day and Black Friday, Amazon Warehouse items get an additional 20% off their already-discounted prices. A product that's normally 25% off new might be 40-45% off during these events.
Check for Amazon Renewed Instead
Amazon Renewed is a separate program for refurbished products that includes a 90-day guarantee. For items like the Apple MacBook Air M3, Renewed might offer a better deal with a stronger warranty than Warehouse.
The Math
On average, we find Warehouse deals offer:
| Condition | Average Discount | Worth It? | |-----------|-----------------|-----------| | Like New | 20-30% off | Almost always yes | | Very Good | 25-35% off | Yes for non-cosmetic items | | Good | 30-40% off | Situational | | Acceptable | 35-50% off | Rarely for electronics |
For a product like the Anker 737 Power Bank that retails for $95, a "Like New" Warehouse deal at $70 is an excellent value. Same product, same functionality, same Amazon return policy.
